چکیده
Objective:Evaluate access related complications contributing to adverse outcomes in patients undergoing retroperitoneal anterior lumbar interbody fusion (ALIF). MethodsA retrospective analysis was conducted of prospectively collected data on ALIF a multidisciplinary setting at our institution from January 2007 December 2021. Patients’ demographics, comorbidities, exposure and postoperative within 30 days were included. Main outcome measures included vascular visceral injuries requiring repair, nerve injuries, blood transfusion requirements, myocardial infarction, stroke, erectile dysfunction, retrograde ejaculation, length stay death. ResultsSeventy-four consecutive Forty-seven female 27 male. The median body mass index 25.46 ± 4.76. Mean age 45.74 years. Twelve had history previous abdominal surgery 31 spinal surgery. level operated L5/S1 58 (78.37%), L4/L5 2 (2.7%) multi-level 14 (18.91%). Sixteen both posterior approach. There no major intra-operative injuries. Two an intestine serosal tear. Seven sexual dysfunction after surgery, which 5 suffered impotence 4 ejaculation. both. cases disc space infections. deaths. ConclusionsIn setting, can be performed safely with reasonably low overall complication rate. Impotence ejaculation are, even if generally temporary, important issues that have informed the patient inquired follow up.

The role of the vascular surgeon in anterior retroperitoneal spine exposure: preservation of open surgical training.
OBJECTIVE Open vascular surgical procedures have decreased since the advent of endovascular repair. Advances in spinal fusion techniques and artificial disc replacement have led to an increase in the need for anterior retroperitoneal exposure of the lumbar spine (ARES). Vascular surgeons participate as "exposure surgeons" for these cases due to their unique skills in dealing with retroperitonea...
متن کاملAnterior interbody fusion of the lumbar spine.
Anterior interbody fusion of the lumbar spine by the extraperitoneal technique was performed in 47 patients with incapacitating low-back pain due to spondylolisthesis (26 patients) or disc degeneration (21 patients). The mean age was 38.2 years. Forty-five patients were re-examined 2--6 years postoperatively. According to the patients' own evaluation at follow-up, 53 per cent were free or almos...

UNLABELLED To assess the clinical and angiological outcome of venous injury in lumbar anterior spine surgery. DESIGN Follow-up study. METHODS During a seven-year time span 77 consecutive patients underwent lumbar anterior spine surgery. Of these patients three patients suffered two minor and two major vein injuries. In two cases this was a common iliac vein injury. The other two injuries we...
متن کاملChylothorax following anterior thoraco-lumbar spine exposure. A case report and review of literature.
Pleural effusion is a possible complication of the thoraco-abdominal approach to the spine. It is more commonly a reactive effusion, but it also may be caused by hemothorax, empyema or, less commonly, a chylothorax. The case of a chylothorax is reported as a late onset complication of a double anterior and posterior instrumented fusion of the lumbar spine. Its management and clinical outcome, a...
متن کاملIncidence of Vascular Complications Arising from Anterior Spinal Surgery in the Thoraco-Lumbar Spine
STUDY DESIGN Modern biomaterials and instrumentation have popularised surgery of the thoraco-lumbar spine through an anterior route. The advantage of anterior surgery is that it allows for a direct decompression of the compromised spinal canal. However, the potential for devastating long-term sequelae as a result of complications is high. PURPOSE The aim of this study was to give a general ov...
